Luke Haislop, junior catcher/pitcher for Coach
Rich Corvin’s 2005 Gallia Academy Blue Devils, led the team in at least 12
categories this spring.
In 23 games, Haislop, the team’s co-most
valuable player, and an All-SEOAL and All-District honoree, appeared at the
plate 83 times. In 66 official at bats, he had 28 hits scored 25 runs,
banged out 16 extra base hits (eight doubles, two triples and six home runs)
for a final season average of .424. Haislop fanned only four times in 23
outings, walked 12 times, was hit by the pitcher three times and had two
sacrifice flies.
Haislop was perfect when it came to stealing (9
for 9).
Two other Blue Devils, who rated the 2005
All-SEOAL Dream Team, also had impressive numbers for this year’s squad,
which finished 13-12 on the year.
Sophomore shortstop Austin King finished the
season with a .417 batting average. King appeared at the plate 80 times in
2005. Officially, King was 30 of 72 at the plate. He had 11 extra base
hits—six doubles and five home runs and 33 RBIs. King led the team in
singles with 19. King fanned 10 times in 23 games, and was walked six times.
King was also perfect in stolen bases with 9-for-9.
Junior pitcher/first baseman Shaphen Robinson
was the Blue Devils top hurler with a 7-3 mark, a .700 winning percentage.
Robinson hurled 56.67 innings allowing 49 hits and 29 runs (of which 12 were
earned). Robinson fanned 40 and walked 27 in 11 games with one save.
Robinson finished the season with a 1.48 earned run average. Robinson, the
team’s co-MVP, allowed two home runs, hit two batters and had one wild
pitch. He started seven games and completed five.
At the plate, Robinson batted .250 with 16 for
64 in 72 trips to the plate with two doubles and a homer and 14 RBIs.
Robinson fanned 10 times and walked five times. He had three sacrifices and
stole nine bases in10 attempts.
Senior second baseman Kyle Burnett, an All-SEO
District honoree, along with junior Matt Mooney, left fielder and pitcher,
finished with good numbers for the Gallians.
Burnett batted .319 in 25 games. He appeared at
the plate 80 times and was officially 22 for 69, driving in 11 runs. Burnett
had three doubles and a home run. He walked seven times, fanned 13, was hit
once and had three sacrifices. Burnett stole 10 bases in 11 attempts.
Mooney was 1-0 on the mound, allowing 11 hits in
two games. He allowed six runs (three earned) walked two and fanned one for
a 3.32 ERA.
In 25 games, Mooney hit .274 for GAHS. He
appeared at the plate 91 times and officially collected 20 hits in 73 at
bats. Mooney had two doubles and eight RBIs. He walked a team-high 16 times
fanned seven times, had two sacrifices, and led the team in stolen bases
with 16 out of 17.
